About Dichlor

What does dichlor do in a pool?

Dichlor chlorine shock is commonly used to treat black algae that typically grow in the cracks and crevices of pool surfaces.

What is the difference between Trichlor and dichlor shock?

Trichlor is often used for outdoor pools, especially those without a stabilizer in the pool water, as it helps maintain a stable chlorine residual under sunlight. Dichlor is suitable for both indoor and outdoor pools and is commonly used for routine maintenance or as a shock treatment.

Does dichlor shock raise pH?

Stabilized dichlor shock has a near-neutral pH. To kill active algae blooms, a chlorination level of 10–30 ppm is typically required, depending on the severity of the algae.

Can you use dichlor in a vinyl pool?

Yes, Sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione is the chlorine you MUST USE for all vinyl pools.

Does dichlor affect alkalinity?

Dichlor will not have a noticeable impact on total alkalinity.

Is it OK to double shock a pool?

If your pool water is light green or teal, you should double shock it. To do this, add 2 pounds of shock for every 10,000 gallons of water.

Can I use dichlor in hottub?

Dichlor chlorine granules are pH neutral, making them ideal for use in hot tubs. Using this type of chlorine won't affect the pH of your hot tub water.
